Nnenna Okore's work encompasses a wide breadth of media which I find so inspiring. In addition to tradition media like clay and photography, Okore often uses recycled materials like paper, plastic bags, phonebooks, newspaper, etc., creating surprisingly gorgeous, organic, flowing forms out of such mundane man-made materials. I find it interesting that many of her processes - be it sewing, rolling of paper or clay, etc - are repetitious in nature, suggestive of dedication or perhaps even mediation through the art process. The work pictured is "Lost Memories" in which she has bound and connected photographs with yarn. This piece in particular resonated with me as it reflects interests I have in my own work - the introduction of thread as a binder, obscurer, connector.
